On Growing up in Guelph…..
I’ve come full circle, Teresa chuckles, “I lived on Arnold Street, across from GCVI High School, tobogganed down the hill, worked at the corner variety store and even executed the dare to climb the school’s roof(unusual for a good girl to break the rules, a dare usually undertaken by the bad boys in the neighbourhood), got hit by a car on Paisley Rd when I was 5”,and vaguely remembers “the police man who took me home chastised my mother something like hey lady keep your kids off the road! I remember going with my dad to get the grapes at the Grapes for Wine Outlet on Edinburgh Road”, she winks. “I went to the school on the Hill (now Guelph Civic Museum) and studied at the University of Guelph. If Guelph had had a law school back in 1987, my dad would have “persuaded” me to go to it. I practised in Kitchener for the first 15 years or so. I started out in litigation, debt enforcement, construction lien work and in the bankruptcy and insolvency field. I did a fair bit of family law work as well although I haven’t seen the inside of a courtroom since about 2010. I think I’m proud of that” she muses. “I always wanted to be back in Guelph. So I took the plunge, moved my law office to Guelph in 2011, raised my 4 boys in Guelph, and the rest is history. Now my office is at The Junction and sits mere metres away from where the grapes used to.”
